MAALJ Mission Statement
The Maryland Association of Administrative Law Judiciary (MAALJ) is an affiliated chapter of the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary. As an affiliate, MAALJ is a professional organization made up of active and retired state, federal, and local administrative law judges, administrative judges, and hearing officers. MAALJ’s mission is to maintain the highest professional standards and advocate for improvements in the field of administrative law. To attain this mission, MAALJ provides a common meeting ground where individuals currently or formerly charged with the performance of adjudicatory functions in administrative law may:
1) Participate in seeking the attainment of professional standards
that will promote professionalism and integrity in administrative law, and, in the interests of justice, result in the greatest service to the public;
2) Sponsor meetings and conferences
where ideas, opinions, information, and materials are exchanged to advance the continuing education of the membership;
3) Invite recognized authorities in administrative law
to appear to share their views with the membership;
4) Provide training and information to improve membership skills
and techniques in conducting fair and impartial hearings;
5) Keep membership apprised of recent case
decisions, legislation, and developments affecting administrative law;
6) Study and recommend improved
operating procedures, techniques, and technologies to better service the public;
7) Interact with the public
to discuss and explain the administrative law process;
8) Furnish and exchange information
among members and governmental agencies;
9) Promote a rapport
with the judicial community, legal community, and other professions;
10) Assist in the establishment of a code of ethics;
11) Cooperate with other judicial or quasi-judicial or legal societies or associations
in this or any other state to address problems of mutual interest and concern; and
12) Engage in such other activities
as are deemed necessary and proper to further the objectives of MAALJ.
MAALJ looks forward to joining in on celebrating the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary’s (NAALJ) 50th anniversary from October 13-16th in Chicago 2024, where it all began.
